Day 6 - A Diamond Day: M.S. Dixie II, $67-Hundred, The Chart House

Today, we decided to "go the other way" -- and take a tour of Lake Tahoe and see Emerald Bay on the M.S. Dixie II - a large paddle-wheel boat.

We headed down to Zephyr Cove and boarded the M.S. Dixie II. The 570-passenger, award-winning M.S. Dixie II is the largest cruising vessel on Lake Tahoe, and a local favorite. Considered one of Tahoe’s most entertaining and affordable water activities, the M.S. Dixie II has been voted “Best Boat Cruise at Tahoe” by local residents, and “Best Cruise in Nevada” by Nevada Magazine. We took the two hour M.S. Dixie cruise which run east/west across the south end of Lake Tahoe, from Zephyr Cove to Emerald Bay and back.

The boat ride and information on the evolution of Lake Tahoe was great.

Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada mountains of the United States. At a surface elevation of 6,225 ft (1,897 m), it is located along the border between California and Nevada, west of Carson City, Nevada. Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America. It is 22 miles long and 12 miles wide. Its depth is 1,645 feet (501 meters) making it America's second-deepest (the deepest is Crater Lake in Oregon, being 300 ft deeper, at 1,945 feet (594 m) deep).

The lake was formed about 2 million years ago and is a part of the Lake Tahoe Basin with the modern lake being shaped during the Ice Ages. It is known for the clarity of its water and the panorama of surrounding mountains on all sides. The area surrounding the lake is also referred to as Lake Tahoe, or simply Tahoe.

Lake Tahoe is a major tourist attraction for both California and Nevada. It is home to a number of ski resorts, summer outdoor recreation, and tourist attractions. Snow and skiing are a significant part of the area's economy and reputation. Mountain and lake scenery are attractions throughout the year. The Nevada side also includes large casinos. Highways provide year-round access from Reno, Carson City and Sacramento.

After we disembarked from the M.S. Dixie II, Joan had built up a latent "shopping urge", so Tomba complied and on the way back to the resort, they hit every boutique from Zephyr Cove to South Lake Tahoe. At one strip center, Joan saw some very nice jackets on a sidewalk rack -- "From $69.00" -- So the price lured her into the "SideStreet Boutique". As we entered the store -- the owner, "Barbara", spotted Joan and sized her up. Joan saw a rack of jackets that appealed to her sense of fashion. Barbara commented, "You have good taste. You should try it on." So as Joan slipped the sheared beaver reversible jacket over her gorgeous shoulders, Barbara said, "Its normally $67.....Hundred, but now on sale for $25....Hundred. Tomba turned and headed for the exit -- .

The evening was delightful and we decided to try "The Chart House" -- recommended for the spectacular views and sunsets. The ambiance and food was excellent and the views were unmatched.

Goodnight!
